Arrivé au milieu de sa carrière, le coupé Mazda RX-8 s'offre un petit lifting. L'ampleur des modifications reste cependant modeste, comme si Mazda avait estimé que la formule initiale était suffisamment convaincante. Le RX-8 « modèle 2009 » reçoit ainsi une calandre redessinée, des optiques d'un dessin nouveau et une partie arrière remaniée, avec des échappements d'un plus grand diamètre. A l'intérieur, la console centrale a profité elle aussi d'un coup de plumeau, tandis que le compte-tours bénéficie d'une zone rouge variable, constituée de Leds qui s'éteignent au fur et à mesure de la montée en température du moteur.

Un moteur rotatif birotor de 1,3 litre et 232 ch qui n'évolue pas, mais un pont plus court permet d'améliorer les accélérations. La coque plus rigide permettra quant à elle d'optimiser le travail des suspensions, notamment celles de l'essieu arrière revisité.
Enfin, le Mazda RX-8 sera disponible – au moins aux États-Unis – dans une version R3, dotée d'une suspension sport, d'amortisseurs Bilstein, d'un kit carrosserie et de jantes de 19 pouces.

		Mr. van den Acker graduated from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands in 1990 with a Master of Engineering degree from the Faculty of Industrial Design. He is fluent in Dutch, German, English and Italian. Mazda has won the Grand Prix du Design at the 23rd Festival Automobile International in Paris. The award honours the creativity of the brand's design team, which led to the concept cars inspired by the Nagare design language.

Called Nagare*, the concept sets out to capture ‘the emotion of motion’ and Mazda has produced a concept car of the same name to demonstrate its futuristic ideas at the Los Angeles International Auto Show.
			After presenting three ground-breaking concept vehicles during the 2005-2006 global auto show season – Sassou (2005 Frankfurt Motor Show), Senku (2005 Tokyo Motor Show) and Kabura (2006 Detroit Auto Show) – Mazda’s global design team wasn’t about to rest on its laurels. To begin the process of evolving Mazda’s design language for future Zoom-Zoom vehicles, they tackled the challenge of inventing a novel means of registering motion in vehicles whether they’re moving or still.
